Description
Nos 1 and 2 New Burlington Street are a pair of terraced houses built between 1717 and 1720. They are constructed of altered brick, with some stucco and possibly stone dressings. No 2 features a slate mansard roof and has three storeys plus an attic, while No 1 has an additional full storey. The ground floor is stuccoed. Both houses have square-headed entrances, with No 2 having a panelled door and No 1 featuring a mid-19th century pilastered and pedimented doorcase. The window openings have been enlarged, with plate glass square-headed windows above. No 2 has sashed windows, while No 1 has casements. No 2 also has stucco architraves and a cornice above the first floor, with a central pedimented window, while No 1 has gauged heads. There is a main cornice above the second floor and a subsidiary cornice on both houses. The interiors have not been inspected. These houses were part of Lord Burlington's early development of the area.
