Description
14 Savile Row is a terraced town house built around 1733. It features brown brick construction and a slate roof, standing four storeys high with an early 19th-century attic and a basement. The building is four windows wide, with a doorway located off centre to the left, framed by a stone architraved doorcase and consoles that support a moulded cornice. The windows are recessed sash types with flat brick arches above. There are decorative features including a first-floor plat band and sill band, a stone cornice over the second floor, and a parapet with coping. The entrance is flanked by wrought iron 18th-century area railings with stone obelisks. This house was the last residence of Richard Brinsley Sheridan, the dramatist and politician, who died there in 1816, commemorated by a plaque from the London County Council.
The interior layout is similar to that of No. 3 Savile Row, featuring enriched panelling and door and window architraves on the ground and first floors, with the first floor having enriched cornices. The front room includes a chimney breast flanked by fluted Corinthian pilasters. A fine staircase boasts an octagonal drum skylight, an architrave string, turned balusters, and a panelled dado. On the south side of the first floor, there is a probably early 19th-century timber oriel with a pedimented casement window. The building is part of the Burlington Estate.
