Description

Nos 12, 12A, and 13 Savile Row are a pair of terrace houses built around 1740. They are constructed of brown brick and feature slate roofs, rising three storeys with basements and pediment dormered mansards. Each house has three windows across its façade.

Nos 12 and 12A have undergone front renovations. The doorway to the right of No 12 is an early 19th-century design with a semi-circular fanlight, accompanied by a mid-20th-century display window. No 13 also has a doorway to the right and a mid-20th-century shop front. The upper floors of both houses have recessed sash windows; No 13 features windows without glazing bars set under flat gauged arches, while No 12 has wider spaced windows with segmental arches. A stone plat band runs along the first floor, topped by a stone cornice below the parapet.

No 12-12A has a tablet commemorating the residence of historian George Grote. No 13 features early 19th-century cast iron balconettes on the first floor. The area railings are made of cast iron, with No 12 having stone obelisks in front of its doorway.

Inside No 12, the ground floor has been altered, but the first floor remains largely intact. It includes a panelled front room with a Vitruvian dado and an enriched cornice, as well as a panelled back room and closet. The second-floor rooms are also panelled, and there is an early 19th-century geometrical staircase connecting the front and back from the first floor upwards. This building is part of the Burlington Estate.
