Description
No. 47 Conduit Street is a terrace house built in the early 18th century, with some alterations. It features a brown brick exterior and a slate roof, standing four storeys tall with three windows. The building has an early 20th-century wooden shop front and brick plat bands between the floors. The windows have red brick segmental arches and are flush framed without glazing bars. On the first floor, there are early 19th-century cast iron balconettes. The ground floor has been redecorated and extended to the rear, featuring a gallery in the neo Adam style, but it retains the original cornice in the front room and remnants of back-to-back corner fireplaces in the rear parlour. The original dog leg staircase has a cut string with carved tread ends, columnar balusters, and fluted newels, while the stairwell is clad with fielded panels and dado.
