Description
Triumph House is a block of offices and shops built around 1908 by Frank Verity, with additional work by T. S. Darbyshire around 1921. The building features a Portland stone facade and a slate roof, showcasing Beaux Arts Imperial classicism. It stands five storeys tall with two storey attics and has a symmetrical arrangement of windows in a rhythm of 5:3:6:3:6:3:5. The ground floor is faced with granite and includes semicircular arched main entrances to the offices, although most of the shop fronts were replaced in the mid to late 20th century, except for a notable marble and bronze framed shop front at No 201.
The upper floors have architraved metal casement windows, with cornices on the first floor and pediments on the second. The windows in the end pavilions and the centre are enhanced with cast iron surrounds and aprons, framed by a giant enriched Ionic order that rises through the first, second, and third floors, supporting a continuous entablature with the fourth floor windows set within the frieze. Above the pavilions and centre, there are stone framed, segmental pedimented dormers. The pavilion roofs extend above the ridge line in a French style, featuring bronze acroteria cresting along the ridge. Additionally, there are cast iron balconies on the first floor. The building has splayed corners on one bay and four window returns facing New Burlington Street and Conduit Street, displaying similar architectural details.
