Description
A row of houses dating to the early 19th century is located on the south side of West Halkin Street. The buildings are constructed of brick with a low slate mansard roof. They comprise four storeys and originally three windows wide, though No. 4 is five windows wide with a single-window return to the left. No. 4 retains a well-preserved early 19th-century shopfront with a curved corner. The other houses feature flattish, curved, bow windows. The ground floor is stuccoed, and unfluted Greek Ionic columns flank the bow windows and entrances. Panelled doors are present. A continuous cast iron balcony runs along the first floor. The windows are square-headed with gauged heads, sash glazing bars, and French casements to the first floor. Nos. 5 and 6 appear to have stucco architraves, likely added later, whereas No. 4 has stucco architraves only to the central windows and the return. A cornice sits above the third floor.
