Description

TQ 2980 NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER NEWPORT PLACE, WC2 71/34 (east side) 15.2.82 Nos. 4 to 8 (even) (Including No. 27 Newport Court) G.V. II Corner block of terrace houses and shops. 1784-85 rebuild. Stock brick, concealed roof. 4 storeys. 3 windows wide (one each) to Newport Place and 2 windows wide to Newport Court. Ground floor has frame of c.1800 double shop front (central door and flanking windows altered) with pilasters carrying entablature with dentil cornice segmentally bowed over the windows. 3-light slightly bowed shop window with similar entablature to Newport Court return and another double pilastered shop front with the same shaped entablature. Upper floors have recessed glazing bar sashes under segmental gauged arches to Newport Place and flat gauged arches to the Court return. Parapet with coping. Originally built as part of Nicholas Barbon's development of the Newport House site. of London; Vol. XXXIV.
