Description
The lamp post outside 2 Lord North Street is a gas street light that was erected by 1914. It features a Brompton-type column and a Rochester-type lantern made by Sugg Lighting Limited in the later 20th century.
The lamp post is made of cast iron and has a glazed lantern constructed from iron, spun copper, and enamelled steel. It has a tapering Brompton column adorned with acanthus leaves at both the base and the top, along with a cylindrical extension. At the top, it is fitted with an upright Rochester lantern, which includes a circular drum and rain-shield above an inverted, six-mantle burner housed in a teardrop-shaped glass enclosure that has a drainage hole at its base. The entire assembly is held in place by an iron cradle with two curved stabilising uprights that extend from the clock box.
