Description

Terrace houses at 8-10 Stratford Place, London, were built in 1774 by Richard Edwin. The houses are constructed of stuccoed brick with slate roofs. They are three storeys high with a basement, while numbers 8 and 9 have additional attic storeys, and number 10 has a dormered mansard roof. Numbers 8 and 9 each have three windows, and number 10 has five. The ground floor sash windows and doorways are arranged as an arcade, connected by impost strings forming semicircular arches. Upper floor windows have revealed sashes with glazing bars and flat arches; those on the first floor are surmounted by alternating pediments. Plat bands and sill courses are visible at the first and second floor levels, with a main entablature over the second floor. The interior of number 8 retains marble chimney pieces on the ground and first floors, but the rest of the houses have been rebuilt internally. Wrought iron area railings are present. The composition of the terrace is symmetrical, balancing the opposite side of the cul-de-sac leading to Stratford House.
