Description

TQ 2881 SE CITY OF WESTMINSTER WIGMORE STREET Wl 56/44 (north side) 5.2.70 Nos 44 and 46 G.V. II Row of shops with flats above. c.1890-1900. Red brick with buff terracotta dressings and banding, slate roofs. Free Flemish Renaissance style. Five storeys including gabled attics. Ground floor with shop fronts altered mid C20 but with central group of 3 semicircular arched doorways, the centre one giving access to upper floors, with carved tympanum. Nine windows to upper floors in terracotta frames and articulated through first, second and third floors by terracotta banded piers, terracotta pediments and curved and finialed crestings over window heads; cross mullioned casements. Terracotta sill and band courses; cornice over third floor and banded parapet above which are 3 shaped pedimented and finialed gables.
