Description
No. 11 Welbeck Street is a terrace house located on a corner site, built in 1905 by F. M. Elgood. The building features red brick with stone dressings and a slate roof, showcasing a free style influenced by Queen Anne and Flemish architecture. It stands five tall storeys high, with a basement, and is two windows wide. The ground and first floors are faced with ashlar stone.
The doorway is positioned to the left at the corner and is topped with an open scrolled pediment supported by consoles. There is a two-storey canted bay with sash windows in moulded surrounds; the central sash on both floors has a segmental label mould above it, adorned with festoons. A similar label mould is found over the window above the doorway. The second and third floors feature revealed camber-headed sashes, with flush brick and stone quoin piers. The gable has a small swagged oculus set within an open-cranked modillioned design. The stone facing returns for one bay on the flank, while the remainder of the wall is plain brick with a functional arrangement of windows and a slated attic. The property retains its original Arts and Crafts cast iron area railings.
