Description
No. 55A Welbeck Street is a corner terrace house dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of yellow stock brick with a stuccoed ground floor and features a slate roof. The building stands four storeys tall with a basement and has three windows across its front. The ground floor is rusticated and includes a semicircular arched doorway with a decorated radial glazed fanlight to the left. The upper floors have revealed glazing bar sash windows set beneath gauged flat arches. A moulded string course runs along the first floor, and there is a parapet with coping on top. The building also has a six-window return facing Bentinck Street and is enclosed by cast iron area railings topped with urn finials. Inside, the property retains a cut string staircase with wrought iron banisters, along with cornices, friezes, doorcases, and marble and carved wood fireplaces.
