Description

No. 1 Great Scotland Yard is a town house that was originally part of a terrace, dating from the late 18th century to the 19th century. It is constructed of multicoloured stock brick and features a slate roof. The building has three storeys, a basement, and a dormered mansard.

The doorway is located to the left and is topped with a bracketed stone cornice. The architrave jambs are decorated with a Greek key motif, and the entrance includes a recessed panelled door and a fanlight. The windows are recessed glazing bar sashes set under flat gauged arches, with stucco voussoirs on the first and second floors. The building has a parapet with coping and cast iron area railings topped with urn finials.

Inside, the property features restrained Neo-classical mouldings and a graceful geometrical staircase with an iron balustrade, as well as marble chimneypieces and other details.
