Description

Whitehall House, located at Nos 41 and 43, is a Grade II listed building in the City of Westminster, constructed in 1904 by Treadwell and Martin. This office and chamber building features a stone façade and a slate roof, showcasing a distinctive Free Style Jacobethan design with late Gothic elements, characterized by a strong vertical emphasis that reflects the influence of Wilson and Townsend.

The building stands six storeys tall with an attic and is three windows wide. The ground floor has an altered shop front with a four-centred arched doorway to the left. The central section boasts a three-storeyed oriel window with mullions and transoms, featuring leaded casements. Above this, there is a large tripartite mullioned window with traceried arches on the side lights, all set beneath a deeply moulded segmental arch at the eaves.

The flanking bays are defined by prominent, sharply profiled mullion-piers that rise as finials above two tower-like stages. These stages have bowed, pierced work and corbelled balconettes on two sides, topped with pyramidal roofs. The steep main roof includes dormers and a crowning octagonal louvred lantern with a copper spirelet and weathervane.
