Description

This building comprises chambers, offices, and a shop, dating from the mid-19th century, with alterations and refacing around 1900 to earlier 18th-century houses. The Whitehall facade is narrow and constructed of Portland stone, while the north side and Craig's Court facade are of stock brick, with red brick dressings to Craig’s Court. The roof is slate-covered.

The building is four storeys high with a later attic. It has a single window facing Whitehall. A modern shop front occupies the ground floor, sitting below an entablature. The first floor features a canted bay window with concave sides. The first and second floors are flanked by giant Ionic pilasters, which support an open segmental pediment framing a triangular pedimented window that relates to the original attic storey.

The north side, four storeys high with a dormered mansard roof, has nine windows arranged irregularly, plus a single bay return to the Whitehall facade featuring matching detail and paired windows. The rear facade overlooking Craig’s Court is likely a rebuilding of an 18th-century facade, consisting of four storeys, a basement, and an attic in a mansard. It is nine windows wide, grouped in threes, with a full-height canted bay in the centre. The windows are recessed plate glass sashes set within flat, gauged red brick arches. String courses are present at the first and third floor levels, and the building has a parapet with coping. The building is included on the list solely for its group value.
