Description
The Roman Catholic Church of St Peter and St Edward is a church begun in 1856 by William Wilkinson Wardell, with an upper storey added by 1863 and alterations in 1880 by J F Bentley. It is constructed of yellow brick with red dressings, and has a slate pitched roof to a parapet. The building is two storeys high, with a basement, and has seven bays facing Wilfred Street. It features round arched windows, paired on the ground floor.
Inside, the church contains a high altar dating from 1867 and a south altar from 1863, both designed by Bentley. Furnishings throughout the church are also by Bentley.
