Description
No. 138 Piccadilly is a terraced town house dating from around 1760 to 1764 or 1798, which was remodelled and refaced in 1891 by R.S. Wornum. The building is constructed of Portland stone and features a slate roof. It showcases a Neo-classical revival style with some Louis XVI details. The house has three tall storeys, an attic storey, and a dormered mansard, sitting above a basement.
The façade is three windows wide, with a full-height canted bay to the left. The ground floor is rusticated and includes a tall, pedestalled Doric columned enclosed porch to the right. The recessed glazing bar sashes on the ground floor are deep set within blind arcading, including the canted bay. The upper floors feature architraved sashes, with those on the first floor adorned with pediments. These are articulated by a giant, two-storey order of Doric pilasters that support an entablature with swag carving on the frieze. The attic storey is decorated with enriched pilasters and a crowning balustrade. Below the second-floor windows, there are carved relief plaques with swags. A light cast iron balcony spans the first floor, and ornate cast iron area railings complete the exterior.
