Description

TQ 2879 NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER PICCADILLY, W1 89/6 (north side) No 138 2.7.69 G.V. II Terraced town house. c1760-64 or 1798 origin, remodelled and refaced 1891 by R S Wornum. Portland stone, slate roof. Neo-classical revival with rather Louis XVI details. 3 tall storeys, attic storey and dormered mansard, on basement. 3 windows wide with full height canted bay to left. Rusticated ground floor with tall, pedestalled Doric columned enclosed porch to right; recessed glazing bar sashes deep set in blind arcading to ground floor including canted bay. Upper floors have architraved sashes, those on 1st floor with pediments, articulated by giant, 2-storey, order of Doric pilasters supporting entablature with swag carving to frieze; attic storey with enriched pilasters and crowning balustrade. Carved relief plaques with swags below 2nd floor windows. Light cast iron balcony across 1st floor. Ornate cast iron area railings.
