Description

No. 4 Hamilton Place is a grand terraced house built between 1807 and 1816, likely part of a group designed by Thomas Leverton, with No. 5 being the only other remaining example. The building underwent significant remodeling and was encased in stone between 1903 and 1907. It features a stone-clad exterior and a green slate pitched roof, standing four storeys tall with double attics and a basement. The façade is five windows wide, including a full-height, three-window segmental bay window on the right. To the left, there is a projecting Ionic porch. The ground floor windows are square-headed with rusticated surrounds, while the first floor windows are round-headed, separated by Ionic half columns that lead to segmental heads on the second floor, which are flanked by Corinthian half columns. The third floor has square-headed windows interspersed with richly carved pilasters. The windows are casements with small panes and timber glazing bars. A rich cornice runs above the first floor, and there is another cornice above the third floor, topped with a balustrade. The property also features wrought iron area railings, and the rear elevation is noted to be of interest as well. The interior has not been inspected.
