Description

No. 1 Lyall Street is an early to mid-19th century terraced house, altered in subsequent years. The exterior is stuccoed, with a roof that is not visible. The house is four storeys high, with a basement, and has a symmetrical facade of four bays. The ground floor has channelling and a projecting Doric porch with unfluted columns to the second bay from the left, containing a panelled door. A bow window was probably added around 1900 to the left of the entrance. A canted bay window rises through the ground, first, and second storeys on the right side of the house. A balustraded balcony is located on the first floor. The windows are square headed with architraves, and comprise sashes with some French casements to the first floor; glazing bars are present. Cornices mark the divisions between the first and second, and second and third floors. Above the third floor is a console cornice and a balustraded parapet. Original area railings are present.
