Description
Numbers 56 to 82 (even) and the attached mews arch form an early to mid-19th century terrace of houses located on the south side of Eaton Place, City of Westminster. The buildings are constructed of stucco and feature low slate mansards, with the central three and end pairs set forward slightly. The terrace is four storeys high, with a mansard attic and basement. Each pair of houses has three windows. The ground floor is characterised by channelling, while projecting porches are embellished with Doric fluted columns. A continuous balustraded balcony runs along the front. The windows are square headed, with architraves to the first and second floors, corniced to the first floor. Pediments are featured above the first floor windows of the central three houses and the centre windows of the end pairs. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, with French casements to the first floor. A dentil cornice sits above the second floor, and the structure is finished with a balustraded parapet. Number 56 has an additional set-back bay to the left, and its return elevation incorporates a pedimented segmental mews arch.
