Description
22 Old Bond Street is a commercial palazzo built around 1900 to 1906, likely designed by William Flockhart. The facade is entirely covered in cast Doulton ceramic "marble" and faience, topped with a slate roof. The building has four main storeys and is styled in a florid Italianate manner, featuring four windows across its front. The ground floor retains a polished red granite frame with piers and an entablature, including a semicircular arched doorway to the left and a mid-20th century shop window. The first floor windows have frames with rounded corners and flat arches, highlighted by engaged Ionic pilasters and an enriched entablature. The second floor windows are adorned with archivolts and keystone masks, also featuring engaged Corinthian columns. A richly carved frieze with eagles is present beneath the prominent eaves cornice, and there is an ornate balcony spanning the second floor.
