Description
Droop Street School is a London Board School built in 1877, with later additions. It features yellow brick with red dressings and a pitched tiled roof that extends to the eaves. The building has two storeys, with the upper storey partially breaking into the roof to create half dormers. The Droop Street elevation consists of three main bays, with the second bay protruding forward and featuring a gable and three windows. The right bay also has three windows, with the centre window on the upper floor designed as a pilastered half dormer topped with a stone-coped gable. The windows have square gauged heads, except for the three upper windows in the second bay, which have segmental moulded brick heads with prominent keystones. The windows include sashes and casements with small panes and glazing bars, and there is a pedimented timber dormer on the left bay. The return to Third Avenue displays five main two-window bays, three gables, and a central square fleche topped with a lead roof and a weathercock finial. The words "Queen's Park Estate School 1877" are inscribed on the left bay, which has undergone some alterations. The later northwest wing is not of special interest. This building represents an early example of Robson's work for the London School Board.
