Description

TQ 2482SW CITY OF WESTMINSTER DROOP STREET, W10 27/1 Droop Street School - II London Board School. Dated 1877 with later additions. Robson. Yellow brick, red dressings, pitched tiled roof to eaves. 2 storeys, the upper partly breaking into the roof to form half dormers. Droop Street elevation is of 3 main bays, the second breaking forward with gable and 3 windows wide. Right bay also 3 windows wide, the centre one on the upper floor treated as pilastered half dormer with stone coped gable. Square gauged headed windows, except 3 upper windows to second bay, which have segmental moulded brick heads with prominent keystones. Sashes and casements, small panes,glazing bars; pedimented timber dormer to left bay. Return to Third Avenue of 5 main 2-window bays, with 3 gables and central square fleche with lead agee roof and weathercock finial. Words "Queen'sPark Estate School 1877" to left bay. Some alterations to this facade. Later north west wing not of special interest. Sample of Robson's early work for the London School Board.
