Description
Corporation Yard, formerly known as Paddington Vestry Refuse Transfer Depot, is a former refuse transfer depot built around 1880. The structure features a ramp, a covered wharf, and a bridge. It is constructed from stock brick with blue engineering brick dressings and includes metal joists. The shed is a two-storey building, with the upper level covered by seven transverse pitched roofs supported by cylindrical iron columns, creating a covered wharf for the delivery of rubbish from barges below. The walls have brick arcading, and the lower storey is similarly detailed. Massive metal joists support the bridging across the wharf, which is enclosed by a heavy circular section iron balustrade. The ramp and bridge are finished with granite sets on the road surface, and there is an additional bridge to the west. The road side features bull-nosed stable pavoirs and canal edging.
