Description

The Tomb of John McDouall Stuart is a monument located in Kensal Green Cemetery, commemorating the explorer who died in 1866. It features a grey granite pedestal topped with a coped slab, which is signed by Carey and Co. The epitaph on the tomb describes Stuart as "South Australian explorer, the first who crossed the continent from the Southern to the Indian Ocean." The tomb is listed for its colonial and geographical significance. As of the last survey in 1998, the condition of the monument was good.
