Description

The Tomb of Reverend Ridley Herschell is a two-stage monument located in Kensal Green Cemetery, designed by E.J. Physick. It features a statuary marble sarcophagus set on a raised chest made of Portland stone, supported by paired angle colonnettes of granite. Reverend Herschell, who died in 1864, was a notable Christian convert, and his epitaph begins with the words, "A Hebrew by birth, educated in the Jewish faith, converted in early youth to belief in Christ, and evermore devoted to the service of his master." This information is referenced in H.J. Croft's Illustrated Guide to Kensal Green Cemetery, published around 1867.
