Description
The Tomb of Edward Scriven is located in Kensal Green Cemetery and dates from 1841. It was designed by architect-mason Charles Harriott Smith and is made of Portland stone. The tomb features a headstone decorated with a profile portrait medallion that is topped with a garland of bay leaves. Edward Scriven, who is commemorated by this tomb, was noted as an eminent engraver and founded the Artists' Benevolent Fund in 1810. For further historical context, reference can be made to A.H. Hakewill's "Modern Tombs, Gleanings from the Public Cemeteries of London" published in 1851, where it is illustrated on plate 27.
