Description
The Church of St John the Evangelist is a church built in 1843 by H E Kendall junior. It is constructed of yellow brick and flint, showcasing a Romanesque style with a Gothic style chancel. The church features a four-bay nave with additional half bays on both the east and west sides, and a two-bay chancel that includes an apse. The gabled west end is flanked by three-stage towers topped with spirelets.
The west porch has an arch of three orders supported by columns with scallop capitals. The gable is adorned with lattice work made of flint and brick, finished with a cross finial. On the west gable, there is a round-arched arcade filled with flint, except for the central windows. The nave is characterized by paired round-arched windows with hood moulds, pilaster buttresses, and a corbel table above and below the windows. The south porch features a single order on colonettes.
The apsidal chancel includes a pointed blind arcade beneath a corbel table and pointed two-light cusped windows, all with a continuous hood mould. The buttresses are designed with off-sets. The interior has not been inspected.
