Office block. Designed as the Radium Institute and described as the first institution of its kind in England. 1911. Architect Thomas Phillips Figgis. The original western pavilion was extended in 1931 by a linking range to an identical eastern pavilion. Stone-faced vigorously detailed Baroque building with green Westmorland slate pyramidal roofs. Twin 3 window-wide pavilions linked by simpler recessed 3-window range. Basement, 4 main storeys, attic and dormered roof to each pavilion. Basement and ground floor of boldly channelled rustication support channelled quoins hung with cartouches. Swagged frieze and deep modillion cornice. Good mosaic wall tiling in corridors. Listed for both its historic and architectural importance.
