Description
No. 25 Avenue Road is a detached villa built around 1830-1840 as part of the Portland Estate St John's Wood villa development. The building is constructed of stucco and has a slate roof. It is set back behind a forecourt and features a Grecian style. The villa has three storeys and a basement, with a width of three windows. There is a slightly recessed entrance bay on the left and a later wing on the right. The entrance is highlighted by a pilastered porch. The ground floor windows are recessed sashes, some with glazing bars, and are framed by architraves with consoled cornices, separated by pilasters. The front of the main block is accentuated by panelled quoin pilasters that extend to the cornice above the first floor, with plain pilasters leading to the attic storey. The building is topped with a crowning moulded cornice and a blocking course. Additionally, there are cast iron area railings with a geometric pattern. This villa type is similar to the adjoining Eyre Estate.
