Description

Devonshire Terrace is a row of twenty houses built in the mid-19th century. The houses are constructed with yellow brick stucco dressings. Each house has two windows, and the terrace is two storeys high with an attic and a basement. The central five houses and the pair at the right-hand end project slightly, featuring giant Corinthian pilasters which extend through the first and second floors, topped with pediments over the first-floor windows. The ground floor is channelled. Ionic porches formerly fronted numbers 9, 10, and 11. Panelled doors are located on the first floor, and a continuous bombé balcony runs along the front. The windows are mostly sash windows with some glazing bars, and are architraved above the ground floor. A dentil cornice sits above the second floor, and a subsidiary cornice is present at the attic level. Some cast iron area railings are also present. The terrace closes the east end of Queen's Gardens.
