Description

A terrace of town houses located in Gloucester Place, built around 1800 to 1820 as part of the Portman Estate development. The terrace comprises 113 to 125 (odd numbers). The houses are constructed of stock brick with channelled and block rusticated stucco to the ground floors, and have concealed slate roofs. They are four storeys high with basements. Nos. 123 to 125 have combined fronts, creating a four-window appearance.

The doorways, located on the left-hand side, feature semicircular arched entrances with panelled doors and Greek Doric columned side lights. These are topped with Coade stone imposts and delicately patterned fanlights incorporating lead ornament. The upper floors feature recessed sash windows, some with glazing bars, set within flat, gauged arches. A plat band defines the top of the stucco work on the ground floor, and stucco crowning cornices and a blocking course feature at the roofline. Original cast iron balconies with geometric patterns are present on the first floor, and the property is fronted by cast iron area railings with urn finials. The terrace forms part of a particularly extensive and well-preserved sequence of Georgian town houses in London.
