Description
No. 44 Chandos Place is a terraced office or commercial building dating from around 1830 to 1840. It is constructed of stucco with a concealed roof and showcases an unusually bold monumental neo-classical style for its narrow frontage. The building stands four storeys high with an attic and features one window wide. The ground and first floors are rusticated, and there is a mid-20th century shop front at the ground level. A giant Doric pilaster order frames the upper floors, which include semicircular arched lights in the first-floor bay window and architraved glazing bar sash windows above. A cornice is present over the second floor, and the attic windows are designed to form the metopes of the frieze of the deep entablature, which is topped by a parapet.
