Description
St. Martin's Vestry Hall is a vestry hall built around 1827-1830, likely designed by John Nash. It is constructed of stucco with a slate roof and features a neo-classical style with a pediment. The building has three storeys and a basement, with a broad front that is three windows wide. The ground floor is channelled and includes a later 19th-century stone Doric porch with coupled columns on the right. The ground floor windows have recessed tripartite glazing bar sashes with panelled dividers, while the first floor windows are similar but set in segmental arched recesses with panelled lunettes. The second floor features glazing bar sashes within architraves. There is a pseudo-pedestal on the first floor with blind balustrading below the sills, and the main entablature supports a full-width pediment with a sculptured bas relief in the tympanum by W. Pitts. The property is enclosed by cast iron spear-and-mace head area railings. Inside the vestibule, there is a bust of Richard Miller created by Rysbrack in 1727. This building is part of St. Martin's Parochial Buildings and exemplifies Nash's varied architectural style.
