Description
Nos. 45 and 46 Chandos Place are terraced office buildings constructed around 1904, possibly designed by Frank Matcham as part of the Coliseum theatre development in St. Martin's Lane. The buildings are made of painted terracotta and feature a slate roof in an eclectic Flemish Renaissance style. They rise four storeys and are three windows wide, with coupled windows on either side of a central single window bay.
The ground floor is open as a passageway, flanked by pilasters that support the spring of a depressed arch, all faced with granite. The upper floors have mullioned-transomed casements with varied patterns of glazing bars in the top lights, framed by half octagonal shafts with capitals on each storey, and ornate strapwork aprons. The windows on the second floor are segmental arched, while those on the first and third floors are flat arched, featuring shallow ogee moulding on the lintels. These are flanked by lesenes that rise into a shaped gable with strapwork paneling and a pediment capping.
