Description

St Martin's Vicarage is an end-of-terrace town house built around 1827-1830, with a mid-19th century attic storey, likely designed by John Nash. The building is constructed of stucco and has a slate roof. The entrance front faces west, while the side elevation is related to the facade of the Vestry Hall, reflecting Nash's design approach in the area.

The structure has five storeys and a basement. The west front features a full-height canted bay with three windows and a single window above the entrance, along with a three-window wide return. The ground floor is channelled, and there is a Doric column porch to the left with a balustraded parapet. The windows are recessed glazing bar sashes set in shallow moulded architraves, with those on the first floor having cornices above. There is a pseudo-pedestal on the first floor with balustrading in front of the windows, a projecting cornice over the third floor, and an attic cornice with a blocking course.

The cornices and other details extend to the south side, which features architraved tripartite glazing bar sashes similar to those on the Vestry Hall. The property is enclosed by cast iron spear and mace head area railings. St Martin's Vicarage is part of the St Martin's Parochial Buildings and exemplifies Nash's varied architectural style.
