Description
10A, 11, and 12 Chandos Street are houses built around 1820 to 1830, with some alterations from the mid and late 19th century. They feature a stucco facade and a slate roof with dormers, standing two storeys high with an attic. The design includes a bowed centrepiece flanked by wings, arranged in a 3:2:3:2 pattern, with an entrance bay from the 1890s. The bow is adorned with a giant order of single and paired Corinthian pilasters, while the wings have vermiculated pilaster strips. There is a main entablature with a modillion cornice and a blocking course. The sash windows, which have glazing bars, are framed with architraves and cornices on the ground floor. Mid-19th century Doric porches have been added to the entrances of Nos 11 and 12. Entrance No 10A features a large entrance from the 1890s, with banded pilasters, a heavy cornice, and a segmental pediment with swept upstands. The area is enclosed by spearhead cast iron railings. The interior retains decorative friezes and cornices, with principal rooms showcasing pilastered frameworks around the chimneypiece walls. The chimneypieces are made of statuary marble and other materials.
