Description

TQ 2880 SW CITY OF WESTMINSTER TILNEY STREET, Wl 79/39 6.2.81 No. 1 G.V. II Built as 3 terraced houses. c.1740 by Edward Shepherd with early C.19 and late C.19 alterations for creation of one town house. Stucco faced brick, slate roof. Mainly 3 storeys, left hand bay now of 4 storeys, and basement. 7 windows wide with one window return to South Audley Street. Entrance is in ground floor of full height canted bay towards right hand; architrave doorcase with cornice on consoles. Square headed recessed sash windows, no glazing bars. Parapet cornice and blocking course. Early C19 geometric pattern cast iron balcony carried across 1st floor and returned to South Audley Street. Wrought iron area railings. Interior retains good original cut string, carved bracket staircase with turned balusters, column newels. Late C.19 or c.1900 decoration in the fashionable Louis XV-Louis XVI taste to the 1st floor suite of rooms etc.
