Description
These are a group of terraced houses located on Broomwood Road, dating from around 1900. The houses are built as two-storey, gabled blocks. Each house features a narrow entrance bay alongside a wider, gabled bay. The construction is primarily of pale gault bricks, which have darkened over time, with horizontal bands of red brick. Door and window arches are richly moulded red brick, incorporating stone springers and keyblocks. Stone sills are also present. A square bay window is located on the ground floor, featuring a triplet of sashes, along with wing sashes. The mullions are punctuated by stone colonnettes, creating triplets at the corners, and the arches supporting them frame nailhead tympana. This bay is covered by a hipped slate roof with a small gablet above the central sash. The entrance doorways have segmental heads, with slight variations in design between numbers 196 to 202. They are recessed and panelled, with the upper half glazed. The first-floor double sash windows feature a central mullion with a colonnette, a pointed-arch head, and nailhead tympana. A single-sash window above the door displays similar detailing. The slate roof is accentuated by elaborate fretted wooden bargeboards along the gable and on the ground floor bay's gablet. Stacks are constructed of pale gault brick with overhanging courses of red brick. The brickwork of numbers 202 to 206, 212, 216, 218, and 222 has been painted. The roofs of numbers 198, 210, 212, and 222 have been tiled, and the original red ridge tiles have been removed.
