Description

A terrace of nine houses, dating from approximately 1860 to 1870, with later alterations. The houses are constructed of brick with painted stone dressings, and have slate roofs. They are three storeys high, with attics and cellars. Each house has two bays, with a sashed canted bay window to the right, of a single storey above a cellar, and with a mutuled cornice. The first-floor windows are sashed, except for those at number 2, which are casements. A sill band runs above the ground floor. Each house features a pilaster doorcase with a mutuled cornice, panelled reveals, a four-panel door, and an overlight. Dormer windows have been added to numbers 1, 2, 5 and 7 (wide, flat-roofed, 20th century) and number 8 (small gabled). Cellar windows are generally sash windows with wide rectangular panes, except at numbers 3 (casement), 6 (renewed window), and 9 (glazing bar sash). The bay windows to numbers 7, 8 and 9 project from brick panels. The front ground-floor sash window at number 8 has been replaced with a casement. Gutters are supported by rectangular timber brackets. Ridge chimneys are located to the right of each house. The interiors were not inspected. Iron area railings, on low brick walls with stone copings, are present at numbers 4, 5, 7, and 8. The terrace is a well-preserved example of Victorian architecture.
