Description

No 92 on St John's Hill was built in 1909 as an Education Divisional Office for the London County Council, designed by T J Bailey, the Education Architect. The building is in the late 17th century style, featuring two storeys and dormers, and is nine bays wide with a symmetrical façade centered around a main door. It is constructed with plum brick, accented by red rubber and stone dressings. A brick plinth supports piers at the corners, which rise to a wooden modillion cornice beneath a steeply pitched slate roof. The nearly flush sash windows are set in flat-headed openings with gauged brick jambs and arches, with keystones on the ground floor windows. The main doorcase is flanked by lesenes with their own entablature blocks that support a segmental pediment. The tympanum above the door features an escutcheon with the date 1909, framed by palm branches. A centrally placed triple-sash dormer, with a wooden balustraded parapet, is flanked by chimney stacks that have elaborate stepped courses. There are also pairs of segmental-headed sashed dormers on either side.
