Description
The gateway to the London City Council East Hill Housing Estate is a notable structure dating from 1851. It features iron gates that were originally part of St Peter's Hospital, also known as the Fishmongers' Almhouses, which were located on the same site. These gates were re-used in 1928 to create the main entrance to the estate, with the London County Council arms added to the top. Additional elements from the hospital include two stone cartouches that have been re-attached to the tops of the gate piers, two stone ball finials located in the front courtyard, and three stone coats-of-arms that are coloured and gilded within the entrance archway of Newlyn House.
