Description
Highview Primary School is a London School Board building dated 1890, as noted on an attached terracotta plaque. Designed by architect T J Bailey, it is built in the Flemish Renaissance style, featuring yellow stock and red brick with stone dressings. The school consists of an irregular cluster of attached blocks with tall and narrow proportions, ranging from 3 to 6 storeys high. These blocks are illuminated by double or triple tiers of sash windows, which vary in form; some are recessed within arches or positioned between slender lesenes. The design is highlighted by an asymmetrically-placed 7-storey tower topped with a steep-pitched roof and a curvilinear lead spire that carries a weather-vane. The brick boundary wall includes integral buttresses and is pierced by high doorways, which are further articulated by piers topped with stone copings.
