Description
The anonymous sarcophagus, dating from around 1740, is made of grey veined marble and is located approximately 7 meters east of St George's Rectory. It is supported at the corners by ball and claw feet adorned with acanthus decoration. The coved cover features gadrooning along the edge, with armorial cartouches on the sides and a feathered coronet at the south end. This highly unusual design is executed in very lavish marble and is possibly in memory of an early rector of the church, situated directly opposite the rectory.
