Description

Seaman's Registry was designed as staff accommodation for the Royal Mint in 1805 by James Johnson. The building is constructed of brick with some stone dressings, and its roof is not visible. It has an irregular shape with three advanced bays on the left and a four-bay return into a six-bay range. The structure stands three storeys high, with an attic and basement. The ground floor features channelled stone facing, and the windows are mostly square-headed, except for the centre window in the advanced bay, which is semi-circular and was formerly a doorway, set in a semi-circular reveal. The building has gauged heads above the ground floor windows, sash windows with glazing bars, a cornice above the second floor, and a parapet. It is included for its group value with the Royal Mint.
