Description
The Entrance Lodges at The Royal Mint, designed by architect Sir Robert Smirke, were built in the early 19th century. The northern lodge features a rendered facade with tall white piers framing a square-headed entrance arch. Above this, there is an entablature, cornice, and blocking course. The lodge consists of a one-bay, two-storey section with a band above the door to the north, and an advanced five-bay, three-storey section with a band between. It includes sash windows and one round window. The southern lodge has a similar rendered facade and tall white piers, but its entrance arch is blind. It has a symmetrical design to that of the northern lodge, with an entablature, cornice, and blocking course above, and a blind doorway to the south. The rest of the building extends to the east. The lodges are part of a group of listed buildings at the Royal Mint.
