Description
The Royal Mint, built around 1811, was designed by architect James Johnson and later altered by Sir Robert Smirke. The building features a stone exterior with a rusticated ground floor, stone stacks, and a slate roof. It has three storeys, with the central five bays showcasing a Doric order on the first and second floors, supported by engaged columns beneath a pediment. The Royal Arms are displayed in the tympanum, while the end three bays are adorned with flat pilasters. Above, there is a Doric entablature and a balustraded parapet. The Royal Mint is part of a group of listed buildings.
