Description

Old Aberdeen Wharf is a 19th-century warehouse located on Wapping High Street. It features a striking monumental stucco facade along the riverside, with former openings now blocked and painted. The building has a plinth with panelled pedestals supporting a giant Tuscan order that spans two storeys. The facade includes terminal pilasters backed by outer quarter pilasters, with five bays articulated by engaged columns and quarter pilasters on the outer sides of the end bay columns. A frieze and band cornice project over the capitals, while a tall blind attic-parapet, slightly stepped back in the upper register, has lost some original detailing except for the articulating dies. Shallow semi-circular arched panels rise from the plinth, and the first floor features tall blind round-headed windows set on a sill band, with flat surrounds, impost strings, and keystones to the arches. The building is constructed of stock brick with a slate roof and blue brick dressings, standing four storeys high with three windows. The western extension includes one double door on each floor, and the windows have glazing bars. Wall cranes are also present. The iron railings and paved roadway of Wapping Pier Head form a group with several nearby buildings and features, including Nos 1 to 15, the Town of Ramsgate Public House, Oliver's Wharf, and the entrance to London Docks.
