WEST FERRY ROAD E14 Isle of Dogs Fitch and Son Works

2. c1870-80 three bay symmetrical 3 storey front to works range behind, a more formal composition than usual. Built of stock brick with office/display workshop windows flanking double doors, framed by broad stucco pilasters with cornice entablature broken by central hatch rank. The windows have slender wrought iron bars with fleur-de-lys spikes. Upper floors have segmental arched iron framed windows flanking central round arched keystoned hatch rank with bull nosed white brick reveals, reaching up to base of low stucco pediment-gable. Flanking sections of panelled parapet with coping. Interior has timber floors on cast iron columns. The hatch doors are panelled with small pane glazing and the lunette formed by arch is similarly glazed. A good example of one of the smaller warehouses in the shadow of the West India Dock, with built in retail outlet on ground floor, a now rare feature. Group value with West India Docks.
