Description

The West India Dock former Guard House is a small circular building dating from around 1803, designed by architect George Gwilt. It is constructed of panelled brick and features band courses, a plinth, an eaves cornice, and a blocking course. The building has a copper-covered domed roof with a stone panelled chimney and is a single storey high. It includes round arched windows, some of which are blank. This structure served as a Guard House when the company maintained its own guards. It is one of a former pair built as a lock-up and armoury.
