Description
The Former Geoffrey Chaucer School, now known as Ark Globe Academy, is a Grade II listed building located on Harper Road in Southwark. It was constructed between 1959 and 1960 by the architectural firm Chamberlin, Powell and Bon. The school features a combination of concrete, glass, and brick, with flat roofs over the teaching blocks.
The design includes two four-storey teaching blocks that are connected by covered walkways to a central complex. This complex houses a pentagonal assembly hall, with house rooms situated at the corners, and a cloistered quadrangle that contains the kitchen, administration offices, and library. The building is characterized by large areas of glazing, and the assembly hall is particularly notable for its roof, which consists of five concrete hyperbolic paraboloids, separated by roof lights.
The interior has not been inspected.
